Dr. Sunil Acharya

Dr. Sunil Acharya: invVEST Ambassador, Bio Energy.

Dr. Sunil Acharya is an independent engineering consultant in product development and contract R&D. Dr. Acharya has a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, India), MS in Biomedical Engineering & a Doctorate in Polymer Engineering (University of Akron). He has primary technical expertise in polymers, modeling of dissipation multiphysics phenomena, coatings and material processing techniques.

Dr. Acharya has over 15 years of R&D experience in medical, aerospace, automotive and industries. These projects have included active involvement in a variety of sustainability related issues including fuel efficiency (automotive and aerospace industry), water filtration, proactive design for reducing contamination (transportation and nuclear industry). His contribution to aerospace composites modeling to projects under the Energy Efficient Engine (EEE) program was recognized by NASA with a “Turning Goals to Reality (2004)” award (shared). More recently as a consultant, he has advised businesses on green technology adoption and grant facilitation. He is actively involved in technology development projects in alternative energy sources, home energy and conservation fields. Dr. Acharya was initially exposed to sustainability issues through his involvement in appropriate technology projects with Centre for Technology Alternatives for Rural Areas (CTARA) as an undergraduate student.

His professional memberships include Society of Plastics Engineering, American Society of Physics, Material Research Society and honorary membership of the Sigma Pi Epsilon society. He is also a life member of American Youth Hostels (AYH).
