  1. VIEW FROM MONARCH HIGH SCHOOL: “Bike/Carpool To School Day”
Okay, I have just started Monarch’s Ecology Club and so I only have recently started the “Bike/Carpool To School Day” project. I am trying to talk to Monarch’s Student Council to see if there are any prerequisites that need to be met (have not heard back yet). In the meantime, I think that as of right now, we are just brainstorming the “appropriate day” to implement it as well as advertise it. Also, I have introduced invVEST to the Ecology Club…so, at the very least, I will be able to integrate some aspects of invVEST in.

  2. VIEW FROM UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO: I am running for freshmen president and it’s eating up all of my free time. However, I have found an environmental club here at USF, and I am going to promote InvVEST to the members of that club. Also, I am hoping to recruit some college students here for our organization. USF is VERY environmentally aware, so the odds of me being able to MASSIVELY increase our organization’s membership base is very good. I may be able to start an InvVEST club here later in the fall.

  3. VIEW FROM VIRGINIA TECH: I wanted to let you know that I was accepted into Leadership Tech, a leadership program open to 50-60 students in each class that focuses on developing leadership skills by going out in the Blacksburg community and designing/implementing projects. My area of focus is “Community Vitality and Sustainability,” and I’ll be working with 7-10 other students on a project. I’m sure I can learn a trick or two from my partners, and maybe some of them will be interested in getting involved with invVEST.

  4. VIEW FROM OXFORD, ENGLAND: I would like to contribute to energy policy, environmental policy, and economics discussions. I have some ideas about networking opportunities. I have already promoted invVest on the Facebook group I have with other members of my graduate program at Oxford and they seem interested.

  5. VIEW FROM AES, INDIA: I presented the idea of American Embassy School being a part of the InVEST community to my community service coordinator, and she was really enthusiastic. She has asked me to sort of propose in what direction I want to take this:
    1) Whether I want to start a club at school (this is typical for any service related initiative at my school). I was thinking that just initially, I formulate a small group of maybe two or three other students would be interested in the InVEST cause to work with me. The first thing I thought we could do is do a little investigating around my school. We recently underwent a huge renovation project that was supposed to gear the school toward being more environment-friendly. I’d like to find out where those improvements were made and what impact they had on our waste production and energy consumption. We can do a little research to find out just how much energy our school consumes a day, or how much waste it produces and then put that into perspective for students (for instance, if it’s an astronomical amount, which I’m sure it is, we can present it in a way where students grasp the enormity of how much we are consuming).
    2) And also do a little fact-finding on India’s current status on the usage of renewable resources. Thus, we can present the data and the finding to my school community to either emphasize the fact that as school or a country, we are existing as harmoniously as we can with the environment, or we can do better (we have all-school assembly where you can apply for a time slot. I was thinking maybe we could make a slideshow or a movie to show what are community is doing as both an eye-opener and an introduction to InVEST).
